What should I use PetNat Ultrasalve for?
Ultrasalve is an entirely natural advanced antibacterial ointment for all sores & cuts that do not require veterinary attention. It is particularly good for reoccurring or hard to heal problems such as pressure sores on dog’s elbows, and cracked pads.

Is there anything I shouldn’t use it for?
If your dog has an itchy rash or skin irritation, we would recommend instead that you try our Dermacton cream.

If you do want to try it on irritated skin, or if your dog has very sensitive skin, we recommend that you do a patch test first on an unaffected area (see below). Do not apply to eyes, genitals or mucus membranes – ultrasalve is for external application only.

How do I use the Ultrasalve?
Ultrasalve is quick and easy to use. Initially clean the area, and then gently apply the ointment once or twice a day. Before each following application gently clean the wound, and wipe off any remaining ointment. For minor sores gently rub the ointment into the skin and then apply a thin layer over the top.

Can I use a dressing over the wound?
Ultrasalve has been designed to be applied without the need for a dressing, however it can be used with a dressing if preferred.

What if my dog tries to lick it off?
This will not harm your dog, however obviously you need to stop your dog licking as much as possible so that the ointment stays on and does its work. The taste of Ultrasalve will naturally deter many dogs from licking it off, however if your dog is very persistent it may be useful to apply the ointment prior to them being distracted, for example - prior to a walk, play or feeding.

What if it doesn’t help my dog?

How to Patch Test
First choose an area on your dog where there is as little hair as possible, in an area he/she can’t reach, and where the skin is normal. Apply a small amount of ointment and observe over 24 hours. If there is any sign of reaction (ie redness or irritation), avoid using any more of the cream, and contact us for a full refund. The skin will return to normal in a couple of days. If after 24 hours there is no sign of any reaction, repeat the test, over the next 24 hours. After this time it safe to use on any sores.
